Innovation in the S8TS series
Until recently, it has been necessary to choose a power supply unit for each application depending on the amount of power needed. This determined how much stock needed to be kept on hand or how many different products needed to be made available to your customers. With the new S8TS series of power supply units, Omron has made a definitive innovation in DIN-track-mounted power supply units, being the first to introduce the concept of modular power-supply units. Nominal rating per single unit is 2.5A (for 12 and 24 VDC). Units can be connected to each other to build a power supply unit with a capacity of up to 10A. The S8TS includes 5, 12 and 24VDC power output models. Models with different ratings can be interconnected and with a single 110/220 VDC power supply you obtain a complete multi-power supply configuration. The standardisation of power supply units is a key feature of the S8TS series and allows you to limit stock, saving yourself space and money. The S8TS units accept a universal single-phase input voltage and have all the necessary international approvals, so they can be used in both domestic and export
markets.Connectors for linking modules
Omron has developed original bus connectors as a way of connecting the S8TS series. These connectors allow you to connect the input voltage internally to all linked power supply units (in this way you just connect one module to power all the rest).
Two types of connectors are available. With one you can only connect the input line while outputs are not connected together. The other one allows the parallel connection of units while increasing the output voltage (outputs are linked together). The connector is built so that the connections cannot be made with line that have different output voltages (12 and 24 VCD units).
Output voltages and flexible power
The three types of S8TS (5, 12 and 24 VDC) make it possible to build more than 100 different power configurations. It is really easy to set up an output multi-power supply unit thanks to the original bus connectors and DIN track mounting. In addition, as load needs change, the output power can be increased or decreased in a few minutes. In the past or with other power supply units this meant the complete replacement of the power supply system. The S8TS series, offering a standardised and inexpensive solution, is the most flexible power supply system on the market.
A
more reliable system
Thanks to the exclusive Omron Building Block Power Supply you can design redundancy protection into your power supply. By connecting one ore more extra units to your power system you can build a 'redundancy system' (N+1). If one of the units fails, this additional unit takes care of the power shortfall required until the defective power block is replaced. In case of failure, the input power is automatically and equally subdivided among the remaining power units. All input and output terminals, even those of the damaged unit, continue to work. This ability is not only an advantage for facing the possible failure, but ensures a longer life for each unit through an equal distribution of the power supplied.
In addition, this system enables the user to choose the right level of power needed as well as the exact level of redundancy for your
application. A defective unit is easy to locate via its LED status indicator. Another indicator that there is a problem is the alarm signalling the power shortage. The N+1 redundancy system is especially suitable for continuous production environments where a power failure can immediately disrupt a whole process from a logistic and financial point of view.
